  1. 9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
    "If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
    with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
    10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
    and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
    then your light will rise in the darkness,
    and your night will become like the noonday.
    11 The LORD will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
    You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.
    12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and will raise up the age-old foundations;
    you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
    Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
    13 "If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
    and from doing as you please on my holy day,
    if you call the Sabbath a delight
    and the LORD's holy day honorable,
    and if you honor it by not going your own way
    and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
    14 then you will find your joy in the LORD,
    and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land
    and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob."
    The mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
    The Lord lists all the things that define his type of fast. It is a lot. To attempt to accomplish all of those things is exhausting to even think about. But as always, God makes a way. He says in verse 11 The LORD will guide you continually,
    And satisfy your soul in drought,
    And strengthen your bones;
    You shall be like a watered garden,
    And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
    I feel that the Lord would have me say to you the following:
    You will get lost. You will struggle with faintness. You will experience fatigue. You will feel neglected. But “is this not the fast he has chosen?” He will guide you. He will satisfy you. He will strengthen you. You will not fail. This is HIS type of fast. And I believe that as you have put on his armor, you are more than prepared to enter into his fast. Bless the Lord with your compassion. Reap the rewards of the Kingdom of Heaven.
    I am excited to hear all that God has in store for you. Life with Jesus is truly an adventure. May the Lord continue to equip you and encourage you to do every good work.
    Be His, and be blessed!

  3. Dear Nancy and Coach, I am so excited for you! It sounds like God has already done a great work in you, which he will most certainly carry out to completion! I have been doing a personal study on what God has to say about my response and attention to the "poor and needy" in the Bible. Its been a fascinating and enlightening time. What I have found intriguing about the verses on the poor, is that God provides for the poor through the “nonpoor” or “rich”.
    Proverbs 19:17 says that those who simply show pity on the poor, lends to the Lord. So it would seem that God is blessed when the poor are thought of, much more taken care of. God has provided a way for the poor by taking care of those who have the means to bless the poor. Again, in Psalm 41:1-3 he says “Blessed is he who considers the poor.” That’s all it asks, is to consider the poor. Considering the poor is a simply compassion. That compassion can go a long way to tend a broken soul. The verse does not specify whether action accompanies the compassion, but I would assume it does. I believe my assumption is accurate because Isaiah 58:6-14 is God explaining what his type of fast looks like.
    "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
    to loose the chains of injustice
    and untie the cords of the yoke,
    to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?
    7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
    when you see the naked, to clothe him,
    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
    8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
    then your righteousness [a] will go before you,
    and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
